The best way to see India

BreatheDreamGo Tours give you the best of both worlds:

- you get to experience the India most tourists never see, in a small group, led by someone who knows and loves the country, and

- you will have the comfort and safety of an organized group and quality accommodation options.

“India is one of those places where you’d have to travel with someone whose heart belongs there…. like Mariellen….” Deborah Carr, travel writer and author

Inspiration for the tours

Mariellen at the Taj Mahal, India

Mariellen at the Taj Mahal, India

About five years ago, I set off to India on my own for six months. It was a life-changing journey. Among other changes, I discovered I had a powerful affinity for this fascinating land. Put simply, I fell in love with the transformational possibilities of travel and yoga study in India.

I have been back to India for three lengthy trips since then, each time visiting familiar places such as Delhi and my ashram near Rishikesh, and discovering new places. I designed the BreatheDreamGo Tours to share my love of India and my knowledge of the culture, of special places and inspiring people.

Do you want to take the road less traveled?

Even though the itineraries list tourist attractions, there will always be options to travel “off the beaten” path in order to visit orphanages, schools or projects for under privileged children, women’s cooperatives. Or you can explore spiritual India by visiting temples or going to yoga or meditation classes.

Let me know what your interests are and I will try to accommodate you.

Dream in India

Journey to India’s most inspiring places and learn the art of travel writing and blogging

Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur

Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur

Dream in India is for people who long to be inspired by India’s dazzling culture, fairy tale palaces and wondrous wildlife. Participants will experience the eternal beauty of the Taj Mahal, the excitement of Ranthambore tiger reserve and the fantastical art and architecture of Rajasthan. Plus, we will stop in Rudyard Kipling’s Bundi, the palace hotel where Bruce Chatwin wrote The Songlines and the Jaipur Literature Festival. The tour dates are January 07 to 26, 2011 (with a six-day extension in Jaipur, Samode and Delhi).

Along the way, I will teach travel writing and blogging; and will help participants get their own personal blog set up on WordPress.org or Travelblog.org.

I am looking forward to sharing my passion for India and my discoveries, and to help others have a richer journey. As we travel, we will visit schools, orphanages, literacy programs and/or women’s cooperatives and experience the India rarely seen by tourists – and find stories of hope that will inspire you and your writing.

Tour group size is restricted to 10-18 to ensure group intimacy and the opportunity for authentic travel experiences.

Breathe in India

Do you long to experience spiritual India, and do yoga on the banks of the sacred Ganges River?

Rishikesh, India, yoga capital of the world

Rishikesh, India, yoga capital of the world

Breathe in India is for people who long to experience the magic of spiritual India. Participants will watch the Taj Mahal float in a iridescent sunrise, explore the ghats of Varanasi, the world’s oldest city, bask in the sublime beauty of Khajuraho’s temples and do yoga on the banks of the sacred Ganges River in Rishikesh. The tour dates are February 05 to 23, 2011 (with a six-day extension in Rishikesh and Haridwar).

This is your opportunity to travel in India with an experienced traveler and yoga teacher – someone who can share her discoveries, teachers and experiences and help you have a richer journey. Read Golden mornings on the Ganges, my Toronto Star article about what life is like in an ashram in India. We will be visiting both of these ashrams on the Breathe in India tour!

I have traveled in India for more than a year, altogether, over the past five years, and I have studied yoga in Canada for about 15 years, primarily at YogaSpace in Toronto, where I received teacher training certification in 2005; and in India with Kausthub Desikachar and the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Yogi Vishvektu of Anand Prakash Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh and Swami Brahmdev (a disciple of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother) of Aurovalley Ashram.

Tour group size is restricted to 10-18 to ensure group intimacy and the opportunity for authentic travel experiences.
