Darjeeling!! So I can take a tour of all the amazing tea estates and make a video blog about how tea is produced!!
I would love to go to Bodh Gaya where the Buddha sat beneath the bodhi tree and attained enlightenment. And also to Assam to see a one-horned rhinoceros! And I’ll be doing just that early next year – cannot wait!!
Oh and how could I leave out Udaipur – to stay at least one night in the Lake Palace Hotel where Octopussy was filmed!
In India, I would love to visit North Delhi to see the magnificent tree-lined boulevards, narrow winding streets, spacious parks and the distinctive style of Lutyens’ architectural design. But even more so, to experience the temples, mosques and bazaars and hopefully unfold a path leading to the attainment of inner peace and enlightenment.
Absolutely would go to North India, Himilayas to be with the Sadhus and mystics and meditate in the saced places and caves, mountains.
Since I heard about this charity that supports young girls, a stop in Jaipur, India is most important to me. I’m told that on a little back street there is a center for street children called Ladli Jaipur. About 60 girls attend Girls Ladli. They specialise in learning jewellery-making. If you stop by the organizers will provide tea and a tour. The street children will offer you their kindness. Everything they make in this center is for sale – the best souvenirs and gifts possible and everything goes to this charity. Ladli is a project of the small, independent, non-profit organization I-India. As such, it relies entirely on the generous support of customers, volunteers and donors. Their web site is http://www.ladli.org. (Toronto entry)
It would be such an honour to visit India. I’m drawn to my guru’s ashram in Bangalore, Varanasi, Agra, Rajasthan. I feel India in my soul, I can taste India, I can smell it. It touches me and I reach out to touch her. The colours, the crowds, the calm and the chaotic I want to see it all. Namaste from Winnipeg.
I have been to India four times over an 18 month period after what would have seemed as a benign visit for a 5 week teacher training in March of 2008. My life has been turned on its ear but in a great way. I can’t wait to go back. I wish to visit Varanasi, Kerala…if at all possible. I wish to explore every square centimetre of that mystical land. Ma India has transformed my life in such a way that I cannot share in a few words but rather than spending my “Golden Years” in Florida during our Canadian Winters, a spot somewhere in India is waiting for me. Hari OM.
WOW! Getting out of Toronto for a wonderful opportunity of education, and learning about another part of this world and culture – What a Gift! This is WHY!
Now – WHERE – Mumbai, the Kumaon Himalayas – hiking in the foothills, National Parks, and anywhere else time would permit.
Thank You!
Delhi, the capital city; since it’s dramatic birth in 1947, India is rapidly emerging as one of the two great Asian geo-political powers that now help steer the world. Take me to the hub!
I’m in Niagara on the Lake
My dream would be to go to India and take dance and yoga classes, and please note that I would be happy to go any city to study!. As a Celtic dancer I always want to learn new ways to dance and move. Over the years I have learned basic East Indian dance, and have enjoyed learning some Bollywood steps. I love studying Yoga as it is wonderful technique for centring the soul while working the muscles of the body. I am blessed to have had a mom/dance teacher who instilled in me the importance of learning about other cultures, as Maya Angelou always states: “We are more alike than unalike”. I think it would be an amazing experience both physically and mentally to travel overseas and meet the masters who pass on their work throughout the world.
Thanks for your time.
I live in Burlington, ON
I would love to go back to Varanasi to practice with a new woman Guru who I met there on my last trip – she spoke to me with her eyes closed but her mannnerisms and the way she spoke directly to me all indicated her eyes were open to me- what a sureal experience look forward to more of her teachings and energy – my first female guru a different experience but one I hope to expereince again.
Hi Janice from Ottawa.

I am following on fb and twitter!!
I would like to check out Mumbai City, it seems like it is very happening!! I am in Vancouver and would love passes!
I’d go to Haridwar, the source of the Ganges River at the foothills of the Himalayas. There are five sacred bathing spots in Haridwar ..perfect places to experience the cool, clear waters of the Ganges at its purest.
Oh boy, I’d have to get my research going to pick ONE place. I am looking into a trip to India after I finish my current book on cultural dancing, so all the regions where I can learn a different traditional dances! (Vancouver entry)
Varanasi, for it is the ideal city to dream, eat and pray at the temples and love and bathe in the Ganges River.
Waheed from Toronto Canada
I would love to go to Kerala. I remember learning in university that it has one of the highest literacy rates in all of India.
Jassie from Toronto
I would love to go to Rishikesh, the birth place of Yoga and the Beatles. I would to the Maharishis closed Ashram and sing Beatles songs to my heart’s delight! I would also swim in the sacred Ganga with the orphans at Ramana’s Garden Orphanage, hopefully on Holi!
Sat Namaste
Tomas from Vancouver
Continuing on the “Eat,Pray, Love” theme I have heard really good things about Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world. There’s so many interesting things about it such as the fact that it faces the River Ganges and that it was the inspiration for many of the songs on The Beatles’ White Album. It seems like a very inspiring and spiritual place to be.
In Toronto. Rishikesh – yoga capital of world and inspiration for The Beatles White Album. Faces River Ganges -great people watching.
I would like to go visit Goa, India – taking in the beaches, churches, and delicious food.
(Calgary)
Please put my previous comments in for the Ottawa draw! Thanks
Love to visit the area where “A Passage To India” was filmed…one of my most favourite movies of all time…just a mystical, magical place. Love to win movie passes for Winnipeg
I was in northern India in March. My favourite place was Rishikesh. I would like to return to experience the serenity I felt there. Such a beautiful place.
I would like to visit Darjeeling and Calcutta, but I would really love to see the majority of this expansive country. I would like to see Darjeeling after seeing my friends (actually, the author of this blogs!) photos of this breath-taking place. I also am interested in the history of tea and think the fusion of cultures in Darjeeling is cool. I would like to see Calcutta because my husband (and now first born child) are connected to this place genetically through father/grandfathers birth right. His story (grandfather Roy) is one of pain, perseverance and pilgrimage (he immigrated to Canada in his 20′s and married a german girl from the black forest). He passed away in the year 2008 and I think it would be good for our family to see where he came from and what he left behind.
I would like to visit Calcutta because that is where my dad was from. He was suppose to take me there and show me where he grow up but unfortunately he passed away two years ago from cancer.
Toronto-
I would like to visit delhi again, i only passed through last time. its cultural, modern, fun and has good food. the people were also very nice.
I would love to go back to India, but this time I’d like to head south–Chennai perhaps? Pondicherry?
Subscribed via email, following on twitter also a facebook fan!!
As for visiting India I would love to go anywhere at all however I would most defiantly like to go to North Delhi because I heard that it’s a great place to visit!
Thanks!!

I’d love to get more recommendations for a first timer on a limited timeframe/budget, say a month? Then get a sense of what to go back to in subsequent trips. Maybe an eat-pray-love inspired trip? Great contest, Mariellen! Sue in Ottawa.
I would love to go to Goa. My Grandmother is from Goa and she tells me amazing stories of the luxurious beaches and the laidback fishermen, who crowd the markets. It sounds like a hidden paradise in a very busy and hectic country.
If I only had money to travel!
There are so many places I’d love to see in India, but I think the Taj Mahal would be number one, for its history and sheer architectural splendor. Andrea in Edmonton.
If I were able to visit India, among the many places I would want to visit, I would want to visit Calcutta. That’s where my husband’s grandfather was born.
His great grandfather was instrumental in constructing the East India Railway through the Gilghit Pass which opened the way to providing much needed food and supplies to the people of the region. In fact, in the movie, “The Ghost in the Darkness”, Val Kilmer’s character (Col. Patterson) was, in real life, his great grandfather’s friend and partner as one of his engineer who completed the railroad in India.
Would love to see the movie!
Thanks,
Alison in Ottawa
It would be sublime to visit the Taj Mahal. It’s certainly on the top of my bucket list
. But also, Mumbai, Darjeeling and Calcutta. Just the thought of visiting India makes me want to break out in song and dance! I’m already imagining the beautiful vistas in Eat, Pray, Love!
Thank you Mariellen!
Stephanie in Toronto
I would love to see the Taj Mahal! Mostly because it is one of the seven wonders and I think it would be neat to see all seven. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this location.

Oh I forgot to mention my location was Calgary
Varanasi to see the Ganges as it is said to be a river of salvation, and an everlasting symbol of hope to past, present and future generations.
Calgary
Would like to visit India to visit the child we support Satish. I worked for Lufthansa for a couple of years and a lot of people from India travel on that airline. I find people from India to be the nicest people.
Ontario
I would like to go to Bodhagaya, in Bihar, India. Bodhgaya is known for its association with Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism and the site where Buddha gained enlightenment. I’d like to sit under the Bodhi tree and visit the Mahabodhi Temple which are significant landmarks in Bodhgaya. (Vancouver, BC entry)
I would love to travel to Haridwar to witness and experience the city’s vibrant colours, diverse foods, lights, people and spirituality. The absence of alcohol in the city must allow for pure interaction with the people and its culture.
I can only dream of its magnificent temples and steps leading down to the great Ganges River. The sunset at the river must leave an imprint in ones’ mind forever. The little candles representing offerings floating down the river reminding us of the gifts from the universe must be a sight to behold. Seeing the Pilgrims bathing in the river that meets the great Himalayas must be a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience. I would love to be in the river with the Pilgrims at sunset to feel a sense of renewal and healing for the next half of my life.

Hi Mariellen,
Actually, I do not wish to visit India. I believe that it must be beautiful, but I cannot truly imagine why I – with my heartfelt desire to be in wide open spaces – would visit a country that is loved by so many that it is very very crowded. I am, however, looking very forward to seeing this movie, and being inspired….
Catherine, Vancouver
As a tea lover, I’d love to be able to take tea in one of the most famous growing areas in the world – Darjeeling.I’d love to combine my visit with some volunteer work perhaps in one of their orphanages. If my fairy godmother was to grant me more than one wish, then I, like Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat.Pray.Love. would love to be able to “find my balance” at the Indian Ashram where she stayed.
Scarbrough,Ontario
I would like to visit the Taj Mahal, because it looks like a beautiful and amazing place. Very peaceful. I remember seeing the photos of the late Princess Diana sitting by the Taj Mahal.
I am in Vancouver.
New Dehli looks like it would be a nice city to visit.
VANCOUVER
I would like to visit the city of Agra and the Taj Mahal. It looks magnificent in the photographs and I would love to see it in person. I would also like to visit New and Old Delhi. I want to visit the places that Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi lived and worked in. Finally, I want to see the slums of Mumbai in person because I’m interested in social justice and how people live in other countries. This is an Ottawa post.
Read the book and loved it especially with my favorite actress Julia Roberts! I have been to Italy twice and look forward to visiting through the eyes of this movie.
I would like to visit Rajasthan to see the Aravalli temple and the pilgrimage in the mountains. While there, I would also love to see tiger reserves in Keolada National Park. I’m interested in wioldlife preservation.
I would visit Vrindavan, the town associated with Lord Krishna, and its 4,000 temples and many ashrams. It is not far from Agra. In the South, I would visit Bangalore, also home to many ashrams. It is also close to the Western ghats biosphere, which is home to many national parks and national forests. Last time I went, 2 years ago, I actually saw a wild tiger (in Bandipore), along with Bears, wild buffalo, monkeys, elephants, etc. Also visit Hampi, an amazing deserted city on the beautiful Cauvery river. Wow, I would love to go again.
I would have to make it to the Taj Mahal as I have been globetrotting in my quest to visit all the other wonders of the world. And I couldn’t resist Udaipur or Varanasi as it appears to be a sight that would differ from all others on this planet!

On the morning of April 14 approximately 10 million people streamed into the sacred town of Haridwar in north India to bathe in the Ganga on the most auspicious day during the 2010 Kumbh Mela. I was one of them. Find out how I found myself alone, and at home, at the world’s largest spiritual gathering.
In Varanasi, where the veil between life and death seems very thin, a boat ride on the river can become a journey to the other side. Come along with me on a boat ride on the Ganges River in India’s oldest, holiest city and pierce the veil.
The Ganges / Ganga River is the Mother of India. The River speaks in many voices as she travels from the high Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal. At the source, her song is joyous, full of the the jubilance of youth, the rush of fresh mountain streams, the sincere chanting of pilgrims and the excitement of the onward journey.
