Mariellen,
Thanks for this lovely, personal post. You have been on quite a journey, but the important thing is that you've found a home. India was one of my favorite countries I visited on my career break, a magical place.

I am neutral on the Eat Pray Love book - I did like it, but didn't love it. However - I did love the fact that it brought the idea of longer term travel for whatever reasons into the public vocabulary and public conversation. For that...I loved it!
Thanks for mentioned Meet Plan Go - really means a lot and hopefully we'll inspire many more people who are looking to discover the world.

Wow, thank you Monica.

I don't know why I was so surprised -- pleasantly surprised! -- to get your compassionate message. I really appreciate it. Those days were even worse than I usually let on. So glad that they are (largely) behind me.

I am going to see Eat, Pray, Love. Even though I didn't love that book, I have decided to be a believer, not a cynic. I really think it's very important in life to be positive. I don't understand why so many people dislike this book; dislike Deepak Chopra, etc. These people are writing about self-discovery, healing, spirituality and they are successful. What's the problem? Why the need to judge?

Personally, I am at a different place in my journey and I need a more rigorous approach ... but that's why I go to Aurovalley Ashram in north India every year ...

Thanks so much for your comment. Hope you are enjoying life on the road! Let me know when you make it to Toronto, cheers.

Mariellen, I was struck by this post and my heart went out to you for the hard times you described. I'm looking forward to checking out some of the books in your Top 10 list, and thanks for posting the TED clip.
Do you plan to see the "Eat,Pray,Love" movie? I'm curious to see how closely it mirrors the book.
